MINIATURE HORSE DERBY Demo 

Saturday, September 14, 2024 – 10:00 am Grandstand

RULES& REGULATIONS

  1. It is your responsibility to read and understand the rules.

  2. Proof of liability insurance in the amount of $2,000,000.00 (Two Million Dollars) is required – a signed waiver is required. 

  3. All participants must have paid KDAS Membership fee: Adults $5.00, Youth membership FREE.

  4. All drivers are required to pass a safety check, prior to first driving class. 

  5. NOTE: The Miniature Horse Derby Demo starts at 10:00 am. Be at the track by 9:30 am. (Parking in the infield) 

  6. Drivers must wear ASTM approved helmet and proper footwear.

  7. Harness and cart must be in good repair. 

  8. Horses must be in good health and free of coughs and/or runny noses. 

  9. Decisions of officials are final.

  10. NOTE: Horses may be measured, must be 38” or under at last hairs of the mane. 

  11. Horses can be registered or unregistered. 

  12. Driver may drive a single or a pair.

    **Please clean up around your horse trailer – leave no poop behind! **

ENTRY: $5.00 KDAS membership fee (see above)

  • Number of entries is restricted to five (5) due to the time available.

  • Each driver receives $100 for participating.

  • KDAS membership fee is non-refundable

PRIZES: Ribbons to 5th place will be awarded at each class.

Class 1 (barrel racing)

Derby Pace (walk-trot)

Derby Open (speed)

CLASS LIST – All classes are timed events.

*Derby course will be the same for Classes 2 and 3*

  1. Barrel racing – speed – timed. 

  2. Derby Pace – walk/trot – timed (closest to optimum time)

  3. Derby Open – speed – timed 

Knocking a ball off cone or barrel = 3 second time penalty. Decisions of timer/judge are final.

NOTE: If a driver goes off course, they are allowed a second try. If a driver goes off course on the second try, they are placed last.

Derby course is a cones course with one obstacle (required pattern with A, B, C gates) and a bridge. 

Course pattern will be provided to drivers before the event. 

** Prior to Class 1, there will be a warm-up time
